The Father is Count Dracula, straight from Bram Stoker's 1897 novel: pale, pointed ears, red eyes, a fresh drop of blood on his fang, and old enough to call the wolves his children of the night. The Son is the creature from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, stitched together from borrowed parts and abandoned by the man who made him, arms out for a world that never wanted him. The Holy Ghost is the Headless Horseman of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, the ghost of a Hessian trooper who lost his head to a cannonball, rearing up on a black horse with a flaming jack-o'-lantern raised high like a relic.

These are the monsters the way their authors wrote them, not the way the movies remade them. They stand in a gilded gothic triptych like a stolen altarpiece, each under his own cathedral arch and his own blackened halo, framed in gold filigree, bats, skulls and guttering candles. Above them, an illuminated banner reads UnHoly Trinity, and the T is an inverted cross. Sacred art, thoroughly desecrated.
